Chautauqua Lecture Series: Civil War Week

Civil War CannonLakeside Chautauqua’s 12th Annual Civil War Week will be held from Monday, Aug. 17-Friday, Aug. 21 and includes engaging and informative lectures from notable historians and speakers.

Dana Shoaf, editor of Civil War Times magazine, will deliver three lectures on a variety of topics, including “Pumpkin Slingers & Percussion Caps: Why Was the Civil War So Deadly?,” “Black & White in a Colored World: The Challenge of Selecting Cover for Civil War Times” and “Odyssey of a Field Officer: John Nevin of the 93rd Pennsylvania.”

Additional lectures will feature speakers from Ohio, presenting various topics re­lated to the Civil War, includ­ing John Brown, President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, religion and the Civil War, Antietam, John Wilkes Booth, perspectives on the home front and war front and Rutherford B. Hayes.
