Plans to expand the Lakeside Campground were recently approved by the Ohio Department of Health, marking the final approval needed before construction could begin. Three contractors submitted bids on the project, and on November 4, 2025, The Lakeside Association Board of Directors approved a contract with Shortridge Construction, LLC out of Castalia.
Expansion Plans
The campground will be expanded from the west end of the existing campground toward the South Gate Parking Lot. The project includes the construction of 17 new RV sites and the conversion of three existing tent sites into RV sites, resulting in a total of 20 additional sites before the start of the 2026 Chautauqua season.
The expansion will help reduce the waiting list for campground sites. Currently, there are 30 people on the list, some of whom have been waiting for several years. It also gives guests another lodging option at Lakeside.
Lessees currently occupying sites 42-45 will be relocated as part of the construction (as shown in the photo). Their RV and decks will be moved to new sites of their choice at Lakeside’s expense, with site selection determined by the longevity of each lessee. Any other existing leaseholders who wish to relocate to an open site may do so based on longevity, at their own expense.
With the elimination and conversion of the three tent sites, the campground will transition to an all-RV facility. Tent camping will no longer be permitted.
South Gate Parking Lot & Landscaping
Fencing will be installed to separate the campground from the South Gate Parking Lot, with landscaping added along the fence on the side of the parking lot to provide an additional sight barrier. The new fence will match the existing black style, and a chain-link fence will be installed around the trash collection area.
Plans are also underway to modify and add parking spaces to the South Gate Parking Lot. This work is partially due to the campground expansion and the need to relocate the trash collection area away from the slope near the new Oak Avenue lots. New parking spaces will be created where the trash collection site is currently located.
