On Oct. 12, Lakeside Chautauqua hosted local, regional and state officials and community members for a ribbon-cutting celebrating the completion of the Western Shoreline Project. The extensive project included revetment work to prevent long-term erosion along Lakeside’s shoreline.
Lakeside Chautauqua President & CEO Charles Allen welcomed attendees and expressed appreciation for the Ohio Capital Budget funds through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) that funded the project.
Lu Cooke, Northwest Ohio Regional Liaison for Lt. Governor Jon Husted, provided a proclamation:
“In the name and by the authority of the state of Ohio, Mike DeWine and Jon Husted, Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Ohio, do hereby officially recognize the ribbon-cutting of the Lakeside Chautauqua Mitigation Project.
On behalf of the State of Ohio, we join all those gathered for the ribbon-cutting of the Lakeside Chautauqua Mitigation Project. This occasion is a reminder of all the hard work and dedication that has resulted in the completion of this project, and we thank you for your investment in Ohio. We are excited to see the positive impact that this will have on the community, and we extend our best wishes for a successful Lighthouse Festival.”
DJ Swearingen, District 89 Ohio House of Representative, who was instrumental in helping bring this project to fruition, was in attendance to show his support for this investment in our community. Mary Mertz, Director of ODNR, provided remarks about the importance of our shoreline and our Great Lakes resource, and David Hirt, Danbury Township Trustee, expressed his excitement for Lakeside.
Lakeside would like to extend a special thank you to Doug Talbott, a Lakeside community member and lobbyist, who was instrumental in securing the state funding and meeting with government officials.
Dawn Drew, Lakeside Chautauqua Director of Operations, and Jim Switzer, Project Manager, ensured that the project was finished on time and on budget.
Thank you to all who joined us for the ribbon-cutting celebration.
