Lakeside Offering Lifeguard Certification Opportunity for Interested Participants

Lakeside is offering an opportunity for individuals interested in becoming certified lifeguards through a Lakeside-sponsored certification course. Interested participants may sign up at Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus Pool in Lakeside through 6 p.m. on Friday, June 19, when the pool closes.

A required pre-requisite skills assessment will be held on Saturday, June 20, at 9:30 a.m. at the pool.

The certification program provides participants with training in shallow-water lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid, and all certification costs will be covered by Lakeside. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certification that is valid for one year.

There are 14 available spots in the course. While Lakeside welcomes interested participants, a limited number of openings and staffing requirements may prevent acceptance of all individuals who complete the pre-requisite assessment. Selection will be based on demonstrated skills during pre-requisite testing, participant availability, and staffing needs. Preference will be given to individuals who are available to continue working through the weekend following Labor Day.

Participants should note the following requirements:

  • Attendance at all scheduled certification classes is mandatory. Course schedules and requirements will be reviewed during the pre-requisite testing session.
  • Individuals who have not already provided their availability and anticipated last day of work should bring that information to the pre-requisite assessment.
  • Participants should arrive wearing a swimsuit and bring a towel and goggles if desired.
  • Goggles may not be used during the required brick test portion of the assessment.

Those interested in pursuing lifeguard certification are encouraged to sign up before the Friday, June 19 deadline and attend the required pre-requisite testing session on Saturday morning.
