The 30th annual Mouse Island Sailing Race took place on July 22 under light to moderate winds. Due to the unfavorable forecast, the race was shortened to “The Green Can.” There were 17 boats with 23 sailors participating. The race is organized by the Society of Old Salts and the Lakeside Sailing Center. The top three positions in each of the three classes were:
Laser – Single Handed
1. Jack Prior
2. Brian Brucken
3. Victor Jochem
Sunfish – Single Handed
1. Ben Brucken
2. Tom Prior
3. Grace Kelmer
Sunfish – Double Handed
1. Michael & Lydia Hall
2. Greg & Ryan Holzaepfel
3. Tim & Porter Graham
Assisting were two power safety boats from the Lakeside Wooden Boat Society. Thanks go out to Captain Dan Fought on Dick Swanson’s boat Frivolous and Captain Dave Park with crew Jim Meyer on Benediction. Without their assistance, we could not safely offer this long-distance race.
