New Perry Park Restrooms & Gatehouse

Perry Park is a picturesque gathering place along the lakefront for Wednesday Family Picnics, engagement proposals, family reunions, tennis and pickleball games, and playtime for families enjoying the green space and playground.

Currently, there are no restrooms in the park to accommodate guests who visit East Lakeside. Families and children must walk several blocks to the closest restroom, which is located near the shuffleboard courts in Bettinger Park.

Thanks to a generous gift from Curt and Ann Johnson and other Lakesiders, restrooms and an incorporated gatehouse will be built to use this summer. The architect’s drawings and some of their work will also be donated to the project.

With construction beginning in February and continuing through the spring, the new building will feature two bathrooms, a small storage area for Wednesday Family Picnic equipment and a space for the gate attendant. The current gatehouse will be removed from the center of the street, and the new building will be located on the fence line within the gates.

It will be important to finish this project before the resurfacing of Poplar Avenue begins after the summer, which is part of Phase I of the Streets and Drainage Improvement Project.
