For nearly 100 years, Orchestra Hall has served as a cultural hub for the Chautauqua Lecture Series, Faith for Living Hour, movies, small theater performances and community gatherings. It’s a place for Lakesiders of all ages to learn and grow.
On GivingTuesday 2023, many Lakesiders supported the effort to help renovate the historic theater. Volunteers, staff and contractors have worked hard on the renovation since January. Here’s is a summary of the work being done before you arrive this summer:
- Audio/Visual Upgrades: A new sound system and a power movie screen (moves up and down to allow stage performances) have arrived and is being installed. A new projector was installed last summer.
- Power Updates: Incoming power to the building is being updated from 200amp to 400 amp service to accommodate new audio and visual equipment.
- Stage Area: Construction has begun in the stage area. Old drapes, valance and curtain track have been removed to make way for new. The back wall of the stage and ceiling are being repaired and repainted. Support beams and backing are being installed to support the new screen and speakers. An enclosure is being built under the stage for a new sub speaker.
- Restroom Work: Work on the restrooms is well underway. The existing restroom is being turned into an accessible restroom and a second restroom will be constructed on the west side of the lobby in what is now the ticket booth.
- Additional Repairs & Updates: Patching of the plaster has been completed, and paint color and finish selections have been made. Efforts are being made to ensure Orchestra Hall remains period-correct and true to its Spanish Revival theater style. Special thanks to Marilyn Duellman for her expert input and research on these selections.
Many Lakesiders have supported the Orchestra Hall upgrades and you’re invited to join them and give a gift, too! Thank you to the Lakeside community for making these enhancements a reality.
