Prioritizing bicycle safety in Lakeside

Biking and walking are essential to the Lakeside experience. To help keep everyone safe, all residents and guests are asked to follow these important safety guidelines.

Obey all traffic rules and posted signs. Stop means stop. This goes for all forms of transportation, including bikes, golf carts, vehicles, skateboards, skates, scooters, etc.

Always stop at pedestrian crosswalks. These areas are essential for keeping everyone safe.

Bike in the direction of traffic. Do not ride against one-way streets. Stay alert for vehicles and golf carts, especially near the edge of the road.

Yield to pedestrians, whether you’re on a bike, in a vehicle or driving a golf cart.

Respect pedestrian-only areas. Locations such as Walnut Plaza, the lakefront path, the Dock and Bettinger Park are reserved for foot traffic only. Wheelchairs, baby strollers and children’s wagons are welcome in these areas.

Wear a helmet. Helmets are strongly recommended for all cyclists and are especially important for children.

Use lights and reflectors at night. If you’re biking after dusk, make sure your bike has front and rear lights and reflectors.

Be courteous. Signal your intentions, pass others with care and offer a friendly “on your left” when approaching pedestrians or slower riders.

Park bikes responsibly. Please do not block walkways, entrances or access points when parking your bike.

Encourage children and youth to stay aware of their surroundings while biking or walking.

To stay alert, avoid distractions like headphones or mobile phones so you can clearly hear and see what’s happening around you.

At Lakeside, safety, patience and hospitality go hand in hand. Let’s work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
