Shuffleboard tournaments slated July 11-15

The shuffleboard courts at Bettinger Park will be busy July 11-15 with three tournaments on the schedule.

There is no entry fee for any of the tournaments, although players must belong to an Ohio State Shuffleboard Association (OSSA) sanctioned club to participate. The best value is to join the Lakeside Shuffleboard Club for $10. Join at the shuffleboard courts anytime, including just before signing up for the tournament.

Sign-up at the courts opens at 8:15 a.m. and ends promptly at 9 a.m. for all three events. For questions, speak with any Shuffleboard staff member. OSSA rules require all players wear closed-toe shoes.

Bill Slyh Open Any Doubles

The Bill Slyh Any Doubles Shuffleboard Tournament is Monday-Tuesday, July 11-12 and open to any two players (ages 16+) who wish to team up. Amateurs and experts are welcome. The tournament is named in honor of Bill Slyh, who was a longtime manager of Lakeside shuffleboard and a truly superior player.

All matches are best two-out-of-three games to 75 points. When players win their first match, they’re in the main event bracket and play until they suffer a loss or win the tournament.

If players lose their first match, they’re in the consolation bracket and play until suffering another loss or winning that bracket. This tournament is usually finished on Tuesday (rain date on Wednesday), and half the teams are out by Monday afternoon.

Ohio State Amateur Any Doubles

The Ohio State Amateur Doubles Shuffleboard Tournament will take place Wednesday, July 13. The tournament is open to any two amateur players (ages 16+) who wish to team up.

This tournament uses a frame-game format that takes just one day to complete. All equipment is provided. OSSA will present trophies to higher finishers in both the main event and consolations brackets.

Ohio State Open Doubles

The Ohio State Men’s and Ladies’ Doubles Shuffleboard Tour-nament is Thursday–Friday, July 14-15, and features separate divisions for men and women. The tournament is open to any men’s or women’s team (ages 16+). Amateurs and experts are welcome.

Matches are best two-out-of-three games to 75 points. Each division will have main event and consolation brackets.This tournament is usually finished by Friday (rain date on Saturday), and half the teams are out by Thursday afternoon.
