Toledo-WGTE public television was named by The Telly Awards a 2024 Silver Award winner in the television-history category for Lakeside’s 150th documentary, “Lakeside Chautauqua: An American Treasure.”
The Telly Awards is the premier award honoring video and television across all screens. Established in 1979, it receives over 13,000 entries from all 50 U.S. states and 5 continents. Entrants are judged by an industry body of over 200 leading experts including advertising agencies, production companies and major television networks.
WGTE and Lakeside Chautauqua started working on the documentary in March 2022 with production taking about a year to complete. A Lakeside premiere was held Memorial Day weekend 2023 at the launch of Lakeside’s 150th Anniversary Celebration.
The WGTE team consisted of Ray Miller, Shane Potgieter, Nathan Hursh and Caleb Johnson. For Lakeside, the crew was Cindy Grimm, Linda Huber, Kaysie Harrington and Gretchen Colon. Narration was provided by Emmy Award-winning “CBS Evening News” contributor Steve Hartman.
The cast was Charles Allen, Jane Anderson, Roger Berkowitz, Jessica Bettencourt, Dave Boling, Hannah Brainard, Tom Campbell, Nancy & Bill Carlson, Gretchen Curtis, Phil Dale, Sean Gill, David Glick, Kip Greenhill, Dakota Harkins, Jane Higgins Marx, Dale Knobel, Shirley Stary, Fran Warner, and literally, a cast of thousands of Lakesiders strolling by during filming.
In addition to the Silver Award for “Lakeside Chautauqua: An American Treasure,”WGTE won a Gold Award for “Freedom Means Never Surrender” – General-Biography and a Bronze Award for “Listening with Keith Burris” – General-Social Impact.
Lakesiders have always known Lakeside Chautauqua is an American treasure. Now, the rest of the world knows it, too.
