Cherry Park Playground Update: Nov. 7

This summer, the Cherry Park playground was damaged by a fallen tree. What began as an investigation to repair the beloved “boat” has grown into an exciting opportunity to reimagine play at Lakeside.

In late September, we learned of a unique matching grant available only in October 2025 to support accessible and inclusive playgrounds. Inspired by this opportunity, a generous Lakeside family stepped forward with a significant financial contribution to match the grant, helping make this vision possible. Their generosity opens the door to creating a play space that is safe, welcoming and designed for children of all abilities.

The proposed Cherry Park play area would feature a PowerScape structure built to inspire adventure, imagination and inclusive play for ages 5+. Its natural color palette complements the park’s surroundings, while offering a variety of physical, social and sensory experiences, including:

  • Play decks, climbing nets, bridges and slides that encourage movement, balance and coordination
  • Interactive panels and ground-level elements that spark creativity and social connection
  • Built-in accessibility through ramped connections, transfer points and inclusive activity panels that allow children of all abilities to play together
  • An open design that supports visibility for caregivers and supports cooperative play
  • Durable construction with reinforced decks, heavy-duty uprights and weather-resistant finishes for lasting use

On November 4, The Lakeside Association Board met and voted to table the Cherry Park Project until the Historic Preservation & Design Review Board completes its review. This step ensures leaseholders have the opportunity to share their input and offer recommendations. We believe this feedback is essential to achieving a thoughtful, balanced plan outcome that honors our heritage while embracing the future.

We invite you to join us for a Virtual Town Hall on Monday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. to learn more, ask questions and share your ideas. Your perspectives will help ensure the project reflects community priorities and addresses concerns effectively. REGISTER NOW!
