Lakeside’s history and special community character are made evident for all to see and enjoy in its cottages and Chautauqua buildings. The Lakeside Association Board of Directors has codified our community’s commitment to carrying its past into the future in preservation rules and regulations. The Board appoints a panel of Lakesiders to serve as an Historic Preservation & Design Review Board (HP&DRB) with the charge of working with property owners to apply our preservation standards.
Each year, the HP&DRB identifies several recent projects to highlight for our Lakeside community. The 2024 Preservation Awards bring attention to particularly successful applications of our Lakeside historic preservation rules and regulations. Recognition certificates were distributed to award recipients at the Lakeside Property Owners Meeting on Aug. 10, and yard signs identify the recognized properties.
This year, the HP&DRB made an award in the category of Renovation to Mae and Michelle Drage and Rev. Dr. Andria Davis for their success in the restoration of 562 Walnut Avenue (pictured above).
The HP&DRB made an award in the category of Landscaping to Todd and Bridget Baumgartner, who were recognized for their landscape and hardscape plan at 710 Jasmine Avenue.
The HP&DRB made two awards for Preservation and Maintenance Using Original Materials that honors late Lakesider Ron Leffler. Jim Beardsley and Tim Walsh were honored for their success in preserving the historic double doors at the Lakeside Pizzeria at 218 W. Second Street, and Sally Lenhart was recognized for her success in preserving the architectural elements on her cottage porch at 331 Central Avenue.
The HP&DRB extends its gratitude to this year’s awardees for their sensitive renovations and landscaping projects.
