Lakeside Sustainability: Zero Energy

It takes us all to help in small ways to become a more sustainable community. In 2024, we’re partnering with the Lakeside Environmental Stewardship Society (LESS) to educate Lakesiders about the Net Zero Goals we plan to achieve.

Zero Pollution and carbon reflects the desire to absolutely minimize pollution of our environment. Clean water, clean air and a healthy environment for all natural forms of life must be improved and maintained. All components that we use should have no lasting harm to the environment.

Zero Energy is part of the goal to minimize carbon dioxide and encourage sustainable energy resources. Lakeside needs to minimize energy consumption and use sustainable energy (solar, wind, hydro, etc.) as much as possible.

Zero Waste reflects the desire to divert all waste from landfills by minimizing consumption, maximizing the useful life of materials and encouraging a virtuous cycle of material use and reuse.

Zero Water reflects the desire both to minimize water use and to minimize and control stormwater runoff. Water usage also translates directly to energy use possible. It also translates into control of pollution in our water.

This week, we’re talking about how you can help support research that promotes alternatives to gas powered vehicles.

Something very important is about to happen in Dayton, Ohio, and it could be coming to Lakeside in the future.

JOBY Aviation will be building vertical electric takeoff and landing vehicles, to be known as air taxis. These vehicles are totally electric and have a range of 150+ miles.

Imagine Lakeside visitors arriving by air at the Dock, in a park or the South Gate Parking Lot.

How would this meet Lakeside’s sustainability goal of Zero Energy? According to JOBY Aviation, “Our taxis are designed for daily life. We all want to spend less time traveling and more time living.”

This electric aircraft is a faster, cleaner and smarter way to carry people through their lives. Flying in a JOBY might feel like getting into an SUV rather than boarding a plane.

Imagine the possibilities for Lakeside. Less gas-powered vehicles, more open green spaces and cleaner air.
