A few weeks ago, Lakeside was blessed to have Clark Kellogg as a keynote speaker. He shared his faith and his philosophy of life and challenged us to do better. He spoke of the importance in his life of engaging and collaborating with others and how he and his wife were giving back to causes that are important to them.
His remarks seemed to speak directly to one of the seven practices of community that Lakeside’s Sesquicentennial Committee identified as part of this summer’s theme of “Building Community for 150years,” which is “Engage, Collaborate & Give.”
With this practice, we engage and collaborate to nurture a vibrant community by investing our time, talent and treasure to support and sustain the Lakeside experience. In doing so, we ensure that current and future generations will continue to flourish and be blessed here.
Clark Kellogg addressed this practice specifically when he said: “We all have the capacity to give, collaborate and engage. We have to be more about solutions than simply being right. We are to be pockets of lights and pieces of heaven when we are here on Earth. It’s more blessed to give than to receive. We should be giving our stories, blessings and gifts. My call to action is that we intentionally give, collaborate and engage. God smiles when we do that and it’s about the small things we do.”
Clark challenged Lakesiders to think meaningfully about “How our lives can be lived in harmony with the Creator.” Is your life a reflection of what God created you for? So, what does that mean for us at Lakeside? It might mean being better stewards, as we are able, to support ministries that are important to us and to the community. It might mean we volunteer our time to help make a Lakeside program successful. It might mean we work collaboratively with others at Lakeside to identify solutions to community problems. It might mean we attend programs and invite others to join us. It most definitely means carrying the Lakeside “light” into the world.
