Dear Friends,

I’m back again, and I’ve been talking with my dear friend, Putter, about #GivingTuesday. I have some oh so exciting news to share with you.

First, Putter didn’t know anything about this national giving movement. I told with him that #GivingTuesday is a day for giving back.

Around Thanksgiving there are 2 days for getting great deals while shopping (Black Friday and Cyber Monday), and right afterwards, there is a day for giving back (#GivingTuesday).

To many Lakesiders, Lakeside Chautauqua is a place that brings families together to reminisce about the past and plan for the future.

Lakesider Betsey Langford is among the many Lakesiders that have been experiencing the Chautauqua way for many years.

Betsey was first introduced to Lakeside when she was 10 years old. At the time, her mother was a delegate for the Methodist Conference in 1988.

Following the conference, her mother immediately called home and attempted to describe this unique place to her husband. Within a short amount of time, the family purchased a cottage and began making lasting memories at Lakeside.

A Message from Our Friend, the Bright Yellow Golf Ball

DSC_2685Dear Friends,

Each summer, I sit in the yellow rack at the Miniature Golf Hut waiting to roll around on the putting greens. I have been rolling around on the greens for 51 years.

That’s right, miniature golf is a long-time family tradition at Lakeside Chautauqua. It’s amazing to see the families reconnect, enjoy the slow pace and share in youthful fun at Lakeside.

The adults are very competitive, trying to get me in the hole on the first shot. Many families gather for tournaments, so my other bright yellow, orange and green friends and I get to play on all 18 holes for the entire afternoon. Seeing grandparents play against their grandchildren is the most cherished time.

Generosity Changing Lakeside

Mini-Golf - 2Cold winter days are when people dream the unexpected and begin to plan for the spectacular. Most likely, one stays inside near a warm fire; a perfect place to dream on those chilly, winter days. Lakeside’s history began on one of those very days more than 140 years ago.

Thanks to the generosity year in and year out of so many Lakesiders, thousands of families and individuals have visited, recharged and renewed their spirit along the Lake Erie shoreline.

Families have gathered for worship to hear thought-provoking messages. Individuals have listened to the breathtaking symphony play. Children share their creative spark during different classes in the arts. Adults have been challenged by new thoughts and ideas. Youth have gathered for recreational activities.

In addition to these experiences, generosity has impacted the grounds and facilities at Lakeside.
