Sunday Spotlight: Finance/Human Resources

This year, our Finance Department experienced exciting changes during the off-season. Lakeside Chautauqua hired a new Chief Financial Officer, Dan Dudley, who joined the team in late May and promoted long-time Lakeside employee, Sylvia Chappell, to Vice President of Accounting.

We also hired a new employee under Human Resources. John Mann joined Lakeside in April as the new Human Resources Administrator.

A Week at Chautauqua-Wawasee

When Ann Strong walked through Oakwood in Syracuse, Indiana, it reminded her of a Chautauqua, particularly the Chautauqua Institution in New York.

Oakwood, located on Lake Wawasee, Indiana’s largest natural lake, was originally founded in 1893 as a permanent camp meeting ground for “spiritual edification and physical recreation,” similar to Lakeside.

In more recent years, the area was known as Oakwood Inn, Conference Center and Retreat, but closed in 2008 and remained vacant for five years.

Lakeside Chautauqua Establishes Legacy House

In late April, the Advancement & Communications Department moved from the Lakeside Chautauqua Administration Office to the Legacy House.

The Legacy House is located at 217 Walnut Ave., across from Artists-N-Cahoots, the Lakeside store.

With the generous help of the Lakeside Spring Cleanup Day volunteers and the Lakeside Chautauqua Maintenance Department, the space was transformed into the Legacy House, including eight offices and a conference room.

Embrace Your Faith at Lakeside

When you visit Lakeside, one of the benefits of the Chautauqua experience are the many ways to embrace your faith. Lakeside is a wonderful place to reflect and grow spiritually.

During its 10-week summer season, Lakeside Chautauqua offers ample opportunities to participate in programs within the religion pillar, one of the four pillars of the Chautauqua experience.

Attend a Sunday morning worship service at no charge with a Church Pass. Church Passes are available from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Sunday; valid until 3 p.m. Attend a morning worship service, stay for lunch and enjoy the activities on the grounds. The pass includes admittance for guests and auto.

Administered through Lakeside Chautauqua’s Religious Life Department, there are several ways for adults, families, youth and young adults to get involved.

Lakeside Chautauqua welcomed 14 Lakeside Leadership Academy (LLA) interns to the grounds in early May. Since then, they have been hard at work experiencing Lakeside, taking on challenges and advancing new projects within their work environments.

Chautauqua Park Upgrades

Help support enhancements to Chautauqua Park with a special gift to the Lakeside Fund.

Chautauqua Park, with its nature/walking trail extension and memorial garden, further allows Lakesiders to renew and reconnect with nature.

This sacred space is where Lakesiders come to reflect, loved ones are remembered, special occasions are celebrated and the beauty of nature is embraced.

To add to the serenity of Chautauqua Park, a Trinity Garden will be planted, a beautiful sculpture, called Inturning, has been placed, and a fountain feature will be added in the southeast corner of the 10 acres of land.

Celebrate God Squad’s 20th birthday

God Squad, Lakeside Chautauqua’s famous children’s ministry program for ages 4-9, is celebrating its 20th birthday this summer.

The celebration begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26 on Cedar Avenue in front of Bradley Temple.

Lakesiders of all ages are invited to celebrate by singing “Happy Birthday” together. Birthday treats will also be served.
